Italian striker Christian Vieri is contemplating a career on the green felt and he doesn't mean Subbuteo.

Christian Vieri is the latest in a long line of professional sportsmen to have fallen in love with the game of poker. The striker, who has won 49 caps for the Azzurri, has said that he is considering a career as a professional player when he finally hangs up his boots. Speaking in an interview with Sportsweek magazine he said “When I'm retired, who knows, I could become a professional poker player”. He added “Texas Hold'em is just wonderful and it really gets you pumped up. I'm having a blast."

The former Inter Milan striker is expected to attend the European Poker Tour Event in San Remo from 18th to 23rd April and the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo at the end of the month.

Vieri joins the likes of Tony Cascarino, Teddy Sheringham, Shane Warne and Boris Becker who’ve kept their competitive juices flowing at the tables rather than on the pitch.
