Israeli Ziv Bachar beat 185 other poker hopefuls over the weekend to become the first Asia Pacific Poker Tour’s (APPT) Seoul Champion and took home $139,872 for his troubles. The Tel Aviv native arrived in Seoul after qualifying online at PokerStars.net, where he won his flight, hotel accommodation and entry to the $2,500 buy-in PokerStars.net-sponsored tournament at the Paradise Walker-Hill Casino. He dominated older and more experienced players under the gaze of television cameras and a live audience and also won a seat at the Grand Final at Sydney’s Star City Casino from December 13 to 16 where the first APPT Grand Champion will be crowned. The winner of the first APPT event, Brett Parise, who took home top honours at Manila, will join him. ”It has been amazing,” said Bachar. “I was deep stacked at the start of play and always felt I had a great chance at winning. I am very happy to be the first PokerStars.net APPT Seoul champion and look forward to competing in Sydney this December.” Bachar has been building his poker reputation internationally after finishing ninth in the 2006 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in the Bahamas winning $95,000. He followed this with victory in the $711 no-limit Hold’em Event at last year’s PokerStars.com European Poker Tour (EPT) Grand Final in Monte Carlo winning $77,408. The Seoul tournament featured players from 33 countries and generated a total prize pool close to $500,000. Some of poker’s brightest stars travelled to Korea including 2005 World Champion Joe Hachem, Isabelle ‘No Mercy’ Mercier and World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner Dan Schreiber who finished in eighth position.
