Isildur1 versus Isaac Haxton is the first Superstar Showdown

Wednesday, 15 December 2010

PokerStars have certainly been building up the hype around Isildur1’s signing with the announcement of the $150,000 Superstar Showdown in which the mystery Swede takes on all comers at four tables of $50/$100 PLO or NLHE for 2,500 hands. Of course, he would do that for more money and longer, but still, it’s getting publicity.

Especially now that the first challenger has been announced as Isaac “philivey2694” “iluvthewnba” Haxton, considered by many players including Daniel Cates and Phil Galfond to be one of the best heads-up NL players in the world. The online grinder also has several million dollars in tournament earnings including his breakout runner-up finish at the PCA in 2007 and a more recent runner-up spot in the WSOP 40th Anniversary $40,000 event.

Isildur1 has played “Ike” before on Full Tilt Poker during his original run back in November. They played several thousand hands of $25/$50 and $50/$100 heads-up NL across sometimes as many as ten or twelve tables, during the course of which Haxton seemed to be getting the better of Isildur1 and wound up a six-figure winner.

The PokerStars Isildur1 Superstar Showdown begins at PokerStars this Sunday at 11pm GMT. You can find them in the high stakes NL/PL Hold ‘em tab at PokerStars. A series of freerolls is being hosted to get lower stakes qualifiers taking on Isildur1 at $5/$10 with a $15,000 bankroll – you can be playing the legend himself for absolutely no money.
