Isildur1 revealed as – surprise, surprise – Viktor Blom

Monday, 10 January 2011

Well, we all kind of knew this time last year shortly after the epic rise and fall of the enigmatic, superhuman, hyper-aggressive Swedish player known as Isildur1. It’s nice to have some closure, though – the identity of the mysterious high-stakes heads-up specialist has been revealed as Viktor Blom.

The newest member of Team PokerStars Pro revealed his identity, something he has been loath to do for over a year, at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. Viktor Blom walked out to the poker world’s media before playing fellow PokerStars Pro and former PCA Champion Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier out of over $20,000 in a live heads-up match that began at $25/$50 and escalated to $50/$100.

Blom is no stranger to high stakes action, though – we all saw Isildur1 take over $5m from Tom “durrrr” Dwan before losing it back playing Dwan, Phil Ivey and Patrik Antonius all at once across eight heads-up nosebleed stakes tables and then being destroyed by Brian Hastings in a controversial heads-up match that saw Brian Townsend’s Red Pro status rescinded for a month.

Prior to that, though, Blom built up his bankroll from a $2,000 deposit that he spun up to $2,000,000 in less than a month: “"I had some rough days but I'm not worried. I know I can always win money,” he said in his first open interview on PokerStars blog. On why he chose to sign with PokerStars, he said: “It’s the biggest site. They do things right.”
And the advice this man, with a gambling streak so wide it borders on the problem, who ran a $2,000 deposit up to millions in three weeks, gave to new players? “Start slow. I didn’t do that.”
