Isabelle Mercier Leaves Team PokerStars

Isabelle Mercier Leaves Team PokerStars

Tuesday, 15 September 2009

The EPT Barcelona live broadcast had more interesting things than Roland de Wolfe’s controversial muck/don’t muck hand – apparently, Canadian Isabelle Mercier is no longer a member of Team PokerStars.

Most forums were instantly abuzz with rumours that PokerStars had fired her owing to poor live tournament results – this was soon quashed, as Isabelle has a Sunday Million final table under her belt quite recently.

According to Swedish poker blogger Linda Olofsson, apparently writing up inside information regarding the world’s leading online poker site, Isabelle was one of Team PokerStars most popular pros and they would never have booted her.

“She's tired of what she's been doing for the past 6 years and felt it was time for change," Olofsson writes in her blog on Aftonbladet.se.

"That's just the way I am," Isabelle had explained. "I get restless and want to find something new." During her live tournament career, Isabelle has WSOP and EPT final tables under her belt as well as successful online results.

The lawyer turned poker pro also revealed that she is looking “to take on new projects” but added that she “is not about to give up her life’s passion”.

It is thought that Mercier is looking for an English language publisher for her autobiography “Profession: Bluffer”, which has already been published in French with rumours of a film deal also in the works.

Fellow writer and Poker Stars pro Vicky Coren predicted that Mercier will still be a regular on the poker circuit. “I'm sad that Isabelle has left Team Pro but I do understand it,” said Coren.

“The International tournament circuit is pretty relentless but Isabelle has embraced the full-on romantic poker life, always on the road, living out of a suitcase for months at a time.

“In that same romantic spirit, she's now jumping off to try new things and have fresh adventures. Having said that, I would bet good money that we'll still see Isabelle cropping up in the bigger tournaments like Monte Carlo and the PCA. I hope so, because she's one of my favourite people in poker.”

Now that she’s gone there’s a spare slot in the Team PokerStars PRO roster – the $600 first deposit bonus they offer could go some way to getting you there.
