Isaac Haxton leads PCA $100k Super High Roller

Friday, 6 January 2012

The PCA has begun with 30 players paying up $100,000 to enter the Super High Roller – the first major poker tournament of the year, and a big one to boot. In total, the prize pool swelled to $3,136,000 after Bill Perkins and Jonathan Duhamel re-bought for another $98,500.

It was Duhamel’s re-entry that propelled Isaac Haxton to the chip lead in Level 2. Duhamel cold 4-bet over a Viktor Blom raise and a Haxton 3-bet. Ike then put in a 5-bet and called Duhamel’s shove: we were off to the races with Haxton’s Q-Q holding against A-K.

Duhamel’s extra $98,500 might prove to be a good investment though – he sits fourth in chips behind Haxton, Blom and Erik Seidel. Defending champion Eugene Katchalov will not be going back-to-back; he called a Yevgeniy Timoshenko 4-bet with A-J and was way behind against K-K, which held up to bust him out.
