Irish Winter Festival Starts Today

Friday, 25 October 2013

After postmanDonie Lyons scooped the almost €40k first prize at the International Poker Open on Monday the tournament action crosses Dublin today for the Paddy Power Poker Irish Winter Festival.

The four-day festival features a total of nine events with an estimated €400,000 on offer in the €1,125 buy-in IWF Main Event which starts on Saturday. In addition to the biggest names on the Irish poker scene some of Ireland's top sporting figures will be taking to the felt including snooker World Champion Ken Doherty and rugby star Reggie Corrigan.

In true Paddy Power style, the festival will feature plenty of entertainment away from the tables including fancy dress and pool competitions on Saturday as well as the infamous Beer Pong event on Sunday.

"Participants will be asked to get into the spirit of Halloween early by dressing up on Saturday with the best dressed winning a free seat at the Irish Open valued at €2,250," said a Paddy Power spokesperson. "There's something for everyone at this year's Irish Winter Festival with the country's top poker talent competing at the main event and plenty to keep spectators entertained away from the tables."

There's still a chance to qualify for the Main Event on the cheap courtesy of a €100 satellite at the Burlington Hotel at 7pm tonight.
