Irish Open 2011 schedule announced

Irish Open 2011 schedule announced

Thursday, 16 December 2010

Irish bookies and poker moguls PaddyPower have released the full schedule for the 2011 Irish Poker Open next April. The Burlington Hotel in Dublin will once again host the event that last year was won by James Mitchell, who pocketed €600,000 after beating a 708-strong field.

The Irish Open, which runs next year from April 21 until April 25, has consistently attracted huge fields, particularly since the 2003 poker boom. Many people don’t know that outside of the World Series of Poker, the Irish Open is the oldest poker tournament series in the world. The 2011 tournament will be the 31st running of the event.

The tournament also has a habit of attracting big names – Doyle Brunson called it his favourite place to play tournament poker – and many of them make their way to final tables. Irish hero Marty Smyth won this event in 2007 while Bluff Europe favourite Neil Channing took it down in 2008. In 2009 the lovely Kara Scott came runner up to Christer Johansson; evidently poker lessons from boyfriend Brian Townsend paid off.

"The Irish Open schedule has grown year on year and 2011 is no different" said Paddy Power, Communications Manager for paddypowerpoker.com.
"We have added two new Turbo events this year, bringing the total number of tournaments to 8 within the 5 day poker festival. Wallets are tighter than ever so we are offering a few lower buy in tournaments to the Irish Open schedule so that everyone can get involved and enjoy the electric atmosphere that is unique to the Irish Open."
