Following on from Bond’s poker heroics in ‘Casino Royale’, former 007 actor Pierce Brosnan is set to star in his own poker movie.
Scheduled for release in 2009, ‘The Big Biazarro’ will portray Brosnan as a veteran card player who mentors a headstrong but talented young protégé, in the screen version of Leonard Wise’s novel.
Brosnan will also reportedly produce the film alongside the Maloof brothers - who own the Palms Casino - and thus get an inside edge into the world of card playing.
It’s been a busy time for poker-themed films as Hollywood cashes in on the current boom. Hayden Christensen, Darth Vader in the Star Wars prequels will be hitting the silver screen this year as poker brat Phil Hellmuth. Elsewhere Eric Bana will appear as a professional player falling in love and confronting his estranged father over the tables in Curtis Hanson’s ‘Lucky You’. And Burt Reynolds stars as a seasoned old poker dog teaching a young kid the ropes in the ‘Color Of Money’-esque ‘Deal’.
