Huge field at PCA High Roller – Fair leads

Huge field at PCA High Roller – Fair leads

Saturday, 15 January 2011

A much bigger than anticipated field of 151 players took to the felt for the $25k High Roller event at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure yesterday. Amongst that number were a host of big names including Jason Mercier, Vanessa Rousso, Joe Hachem and Tom Marchese.

Those four will all be back for Day 2 where they will be chasing overnight chip leader Ryan Fair who was one of only two players to crack the 200,000 chip mark. Fair will be looking to add to an already impressive tournament CV that includes a win in the PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker which saw him scoop over $1.1m.

All told, 91 players are still in contention for a share of the almost $4m prize pool including Max Lykov, David Baker, Faraz Jaka, Chino Rheem and Freddy Deeb. Flying the flag for blighty is Luke -_FullFlush_' Schwartz who is the only Brit still in contention.

The possibility of a high rolling double is very much still on as $100k Super High Roller champion Eugene Katchalov is nestled safely in the middle of the chip counts. William Reynolds, winner of last year's PCA High Roller is also riding high this year, closing the opening day in fifth position.

There will be no PCA glory for ElkY this year though. Joining the Frenchman on the rail yesterday were the likes of John Duthie, world champ Jonathan Duhamel, shootout finalist Shaun Deeb and Viktor 'Isildur1' Blom.

The action resumes at 4pm today UK time.
