High Stakes Poker competitor Alan Meltzer passes away

Tuesday, 1 November 2011

The poker world was deeply saddened to learn that Alan Meltzer passed away after his friend and often competitor at the table David “viffer” Peat posted on Twitter that Meltzer had died at his home from as yet unknown causes.

Meltzer was a very rich music executive and was well-known in the poker community for his recreational play in high stakes cash games. Must be nice to afford to lose a six-figure buy-in for fun and TV time. However, the poker community won’t just be missing the chips that Meltzer brought to the table.

WSOPE 2010 finalist and Victory Poker CEO Dan Fleyshman described Meltzer as “one of my business mentors” and as a man who loved charity. Andrew Robl seconded Meltzer’s generosity, calling the record label owner “one of the greatest people I’ve ever known. Such a big heart.”
