Industry blogs have claimed that TV executives are ready to drop the hammer and scrap the popular US television show High Stakes Poker.
A number of websites have claimed that, following a change in the US Game Show Network’s management, the televised cash game is to be sent packing.
Co-host AJ Benza was reported as saying: “Far as Gabe [Kaplin, co-host and poker player] and I know… the show isn’t coming back.
“Apparently the network is going to go in a different direction and that ain’t good news for our show. Never mind that we’re the networks number-one show.”
At the time of its conception the show was unique in bringing cash games, rather than tournaments, to the viewing public. Top pros such as Daniel Negreanu, Doyle Brunson and Sammy Farha would compete in a cash game; usually with over $100,000 in front of them. The biggest-ever pot reached over $1,000,000.
