Herrera Heads Punta Cana Classic

Friday, 15 November 2013

While much of Europe starts to shiver plenty of grinders have decided that the warmer climes of the Caribbean are a much more enticing proposition, in particular the Punta Cana Poker Classic in the Dominican Republic.

A total of 490 players, including WSOP November Niner Marc Mclaughlin, took the tables for the opening event of this year's Caribbean Poker Tour and in the process created a guarantee busting prize pool of $712,950. Heading into day three just 20 of those 490 starters remain in contention with Andres Herrera heading the chase for the $171,100 first prize.

Notables well placed for a deep run also include recent WPT Borgata champion Anthony Zinno and last year's WPT Montreal winner Jonathan Roy who return in fifth and sixth respectively.

The action resumes at 2pm local time (6pm GMT).

The chip leaders are as follows:

1 Andrés Herrera 669,000
2 Patrick Serda 667,000
3 Miguel Plaza 589,000
4 Gabriel Díaz 548,000

7 Roland Van Morckhoven 384,000
8 Guillermo Olivera 382,000
9 Jonathan Brulé 360,000
