Hellmuth leads Bay 101 Shooting Stars with 27 left

Well, this won’t do anything to deflate his ego. Of the 126 survivors from Day 1a and Day 1b, just 27 remain; 26 of whom are trailing behind UB pro and 11-time WSOP bracelet-winner Phil Hellmuth.

He began the day in the same fashion that he would continue it. Well, some Two Plus Two posters say that he jumped up and ran screaming around the table after the first hand. Many thought he had been eliminated but he only lost 800 chips from a 10,000 stack.

What we meant was that early on, he had JC Tran dominated when all the chips went in the middle on a Td-9d-Xx board holding the nut flush draw against Tran’s Kd-Qd. An ace on the turn left Tran just one out which he didn’t hit, handing Hellmuth a 100,000 chipstack and a $5,000 bounty.

Hellmuth later clashed with 2009 WCoOP Main Event winner Yevgeniy Timoshenko, taking him over the 300,000 chip mark – and netting another $5,000 – holding Th-8h against AKo after 3-betting pre-flop and being committed to call the 4-bet shove. He hit an 8 to rake in a huge pot.

Scotty Nguyen is the second-most famous name still alive in the field, but Nick Shulman and Brian Rast also deserve mentions. PokerStars Pros Barry Greenstein and Daniel Negreanu hit the rail.

Speaking of Negreanu, he’s laid Hellmuth 250/1 in a $ prop bet. Hellmuth has to win the $50,000 World Series of Poker 2010.
