Hasmukh Khodiyara wins Genting Poker Series Sheffield

Monday, 26 November 2012

The latest leg of the Genting Poker Series in Sheffield was one for the record books attracting a huge 562-runner field and doubling the £100,000 guarantee. After three days of hard fought action it was Hasmukh Khodiyara who emerged victorious.

The man from Leicester turned £430 into £50,000 after beating Stephen McGrath heads up, coming back from an almost five to one chip deficit to claim victory. McGrath looked on course to take the title but one hand completely changed the course of the match.

After flopping a wheel, Khodiyara managed to get all in against McGrath's bottom pair and the double up gave this year's UKIPT Nottingham finalist all the momentum. The end came shortly after with Khodiyara sealing the title when his AJ held against McGrath's Q10.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1 Hasmukh Khodiyara £50,000
2 Stephen McGrath £31,750
3 Matt Myford £22,400
4 Simon Higgins £18,000
5 Shola Akindele £14,050
6 Rob Boon £11,200
7 Rob Flett £9,000
8 Danny Hook £6,750
9 Tim Chung £4,500

"The tournament was a sellout, the atmosphere was electric and the poker was of the highest quality," said Kevin Proctor, Head of live poker operations at Genting. "It is nice to see yet another qualifier take down a big pot and it demonstrates once more that the format of the Series is perfect for poker players of all ability. To smash through a £1 million in prize money before we even reach the final speaks volume for its popularity with the players.”

There's not long to wait now until the season ending Genting Poker Series Grand Final at the Fox Poker Club. The action gets under way with a £5,000+£350 High Roller on Saturday 1st December. The £200k guaranteed Main Event follows soon after with opening flights on Thursday 6th and Friday 7th December. Qualifiers for the £1,500+£100 tournament are up and running at Genting Poker.
