Harrison Gimbel wins WPT Series Florida

Harrison Gimbel wins WPT Series Florida

Wednesday, 24 November 2010

He may be young in years but Harrison Gimbel is proving that's he's no novice when it comes to tournament success after notching up another big win, this time at the WPT Series Event in Florida.

The 20-year-old outlasted a field of 289 players that included the likes of Jason Mercier, Josh Arieh, Jeff Madsen, Joe Serock to take the title at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Florida. Gimbel of course is no stranger to big wins. Aged just 19, he took down the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in January for a $2.2m score.

Gimbel found some luck just when he needed it on the opening day in Florida. The youngster was heading to the rail holding Q9 against Adam Adler's AQ on a queen high board with just the river to come but spiked a nine and never looked back.

With a $150k jump between first and second, Gimbel and heads up opponent Anthony Ruberto agreed to a chop with Gimbel eventually taking $330,000 and the trophy.

The Florida native now has career winnings of over over $2.6m but is of course still waiting to make his WSOP debut. Because of age restrictions, he won't be able to make his World Series bow until 2012.

As we reported yesterday, WPT Series events like the one in Florida will be heading to this side of the Atlantic in the new year. The first special takes place in Paris in February with more events likely to be announced later in the year.
