Hall’s well that ends well for Brandon in Aruba Classic

Monday, 12 October 2009

Brandon Hall has won the 2009 Aruba Classic. The youngster went from being the short stack on the final table to defeating the long time chip leader Robert Mizrachi to claim his first major title.

After Chase Steely was eliminated in third place, the final pair agreed to a chop with each player taking home the $414,000 runners up prize plus a percentage of the final first prize depending on their chip stick. They both added $30,000 in addition to competing for the title.

Hall seized the advantage shortly after the deal was struck making a brave but ultimately winning call with just King high. He sealed the victory just 15 minutes later. All the chips went in with Mizrachi holding 9-6 and Hall J-10 on an 8-9-2. A jack on the turn gave Hall top pair, the queen on the river a straight and with it the Aruba Classic title.

Though the win in Aruba is Hall’s biggest win to date he has shown some decent form online. He won $45,000 in Ultimate Bet’s $200,000 Guaranteed event in August and followed it up with a second place finish in the PokerStars Super Tuesday tournament for a cash of $63,000.

The official final positions and pre chop payouts were as follows:

1 Brandon Hall $753,330
2 Robert Mizrachi $414,680
3 Chase Steely $218,860
4 Eric Baldwin $126,710
5 Jose Santos $92,150
6 Brock Parker $66,810
7 Matt Ross $41,470
