Hail Augustus! Gilles wins UKIPT Coventry.

The list of famous Belgians isn't exactly an extensive one, especially as far as poker is concerned. Cyclists, artists and fictional detectives maybe but not No Limit Hold'em players. Well Gilles Augustus has done his best to change that perception after winning the latest PokerStars UKIPT event in Coventry.

The 22-year-old from Kapelle op/ den Bos outlasted a final table that included Joe Grech and Dan Carter before beating David Jones after a swift heads up battle. Augustus, a computer programmer who normally plays $16 sit and goes, earned his biggest ever pay day of £46,000 plus a seat in EPT London.

Speaking to PokerStars after his win, Augustus said, “It was a pretty hard table when I looked at the stats of the other players at the (final) table. They'd all made big cashes except me. I was the only player who'd never cashed a big event. I was very confident because I knew that the other player (runner up David Jones) was very aggressive so I just had to pick my spots and that's how I did it!” As for the money? A trip to Las Vegas could be in the offing.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1: Gilles Augustus - £46,000
2: Dave Jones - £29,400
3: Joe Grech - £16,100
4: Dan Carter - £12,700
5: Paul Rigg - £10,200
6: Marius Lietuvnikas - £8,200
7: Chris Brice - £6,600
8: Ben Dobson - £5,000
9: Andrew Booth - £3,500

The UKIPT next heads to Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham from 12th to 17th May 2010. Satellites are already running at PokerStars.
