Gus Hansen wins another $500,000 at Full Tilt Poker

Thursday, 17 March 2011

Gus Hansen cannot be stopped, its official. Last night he took to the Omaha CAP tables that have been so good to him in 2011 and earned over $520,000; eradicating his losses to O Fortuna PLS at heads-up 2-7 and putting him back over $3m for the year again.

Hansen is by far and away the biggest winner of the year thus far but, not to be pessimistic, this is a typical pattern for him. By March 2009 Hansen had won over $2.3m before losing over $5.5m on the year; in 2010 Hansen was up $1.9m by February before dropping to -$2.5m in August. In 2011 he has once again gotten off to a roaring start and it will be interesting to see if he can keep his momentum going.

In fairness, this winning streak did not start at the beginning of this year. Though he is up $3m and more for 2011, his run began from the aforementioned low point in August 2010; by the end of that year he had won back all but $225,000 of the $2.3m he was down in August. This means that since his World Series of Poker Europe bracelet and Poker Million win last year he has earned more than $5.3m in online poker.
