The Pokerstars.net APPT Grand Final was capped by a memorable final table and a mammoth heads-up battle. When the last card had been dealt it was Australian Grant Levy who won, improving on his third place finish at the Pokernews Cup Main Event last month.
Levy was an average stack coming into the final table, with the Lei He and Sol Bergren having commanding chip stacks of around 2.6 million each compared to Levy’s 1 million.
Players tumbled out from ninth to fifth in quicker time than it took for them to lose the fourth placed finisher, showing just how tense matters got at the business end. Seventy hands of four-way play were dealt before Bergren was eliminated. A couple of orbits of three-handed action was enough to see Lei He knocked out in third, and we were down to heads up action between Jeremiah Vinsant and Grant Levy.
Both players must have been delighted to have outlasted the two giant stacks on the final table, but there was still the chance to take down the title itself, and the tension was evident. Sixty hands of heads-up play ensued, until the key hand was dealt. Levy raised on the button with Qs-6s, and was called by Vinsant, a Tennesse-based player. The flop came Q-6-3 rainbow, and Levy led out. Vinsant re-raised all in, and Levy called. The American had been outflopped, his Q-T now drawing to three outs. The 6d on the turn meant that Vinsant now drew to the case queen, but she didn’t arrive, and Levy was crowned the champion, winning AUS $1,000,000.
