Christopher Gordon was the big tournament winner in the capital this weekend after taking down the WPT National London event at Aspers.
The prospect of a five-figure score for a buy-in of just £200 saw many a UK grinder heading to east London but none could match Gordon who pocketed a first prize of £22,500 after outlasting 594 entrants.24 players were still in conention for Accumulator glory at the start of play on Sunday but it didn't take long to reach the final table after a frantic opening. Among the early casualties was last year's WPT Nottingham winner Matas Cimbolas who busted in 13th.Brits dominated the final table, but after the likes of Petrit Papushi, Kenny King, Darren Mapley and Laurence Essa had hit the rail only Spaniard Jesus Gracia stood between Gordon and glory.Gordon started heads-up play with a four to one chip lead and it didn't take him long to secure his largest tournament score, coming from behind with K-9 to crack the short-stacked Gracia's pocket 10s.
