There must be something about the Manchester leg of the Grosvenor
UK Poker Tour. Last year saw one of the most recognisable British
pros, Dave Colclough, win the title. This time around the winner
was no less notable, this time Marc ‘Mr Cool’ Goodwin defeating
another widely respected pro to the top spot.
The final table saw a collection of men all keen to win a title
which has eluded some of them for a little longer than you’d
expect. Paul Gourlay, Nik Persaud, Pete Linton and Marc Goodwin
headed the notable faces, while Zachary Ford had the most chips
when they settled down to play out the final table.
Marc Goodwin - 517,000
Zachary Ford - 614,000
Charles Ihle - 241,000
Paul Gourlay - 225,000
Nik Persaud - 559,000
Aarun Bernard - 294,500
Paul Lammas - 223,000
Laurance Houghton - 243,500
Pete Linton - 205,500
The action on the table was heavily dominated by Goodwin and
Persaud, both of whom took turns to savage the stacks of the other
players. The chip lead flitted between the two men until Goodwin
knocked out Ford in 3rd place, sending him into a heads-up battle
with a 2:1 chip lead over Persaud.
Heads-up between the two didn’t last too long, with all of the
money going in the middle on an A-T-3 flop. Goodwin’s top pair was
ahead of Persaud’s second pair, and when the board bricked out,
Goodwin lifted the title.
The next leg of the tour hits Newcastle on 14th May before a
short sabbatical before the World Series of Poker. The finishing
places and payouts for the Manchester leg are as follows:
Marc Goodwin - £90,420
Nik Persaud - £52,530
Zachary Ford - £37,850
Charles Ihle - £25,490
Aarun Bernard - £19,310
Laurence Houghton - £15,450
Paul Gourlay - £12,360
Paul Lammas - £9,270
Pete Linton - £6,950
