Giovanni Sutera wins European Masters of Poker Italy

Wednesday, 2 June 2010

The latest leg of the European Masters of Poker tour took place in Campione in Italy over the weekend and the crowd had a home win to cheer after Giovanni Sutera topped the 386 runner field to take the honours.

The Italian went into the final table as the short stack but managed to hang in until play play went three-handed. A very timely triple up catapulted Sutera into serious contention and after Finn Janne Pitko was eliminated in third place Sutera was left to battle it out with fellow Italian Fabio Percope.

The end when it came was swift with the chips going in with Sutera holding Ac7c against Percope's K10. A seven on the flop with two clubs gave Sutera the lead, a lead that he wouldn't relinquish after hitting his flush on the turn. Percope settled for €52,245 for his runner up finish.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1: Giovanni Sutera (Italy) -- EUR85,220
2. Fabio Percopo (Italy) -- EUR52,245
3. Janne Pitko (Finland) -- EUR34,055
4. Primoz Urek (Slovenia) -- EUR21,670
5. Matz Svensen (Swenden) -- EUR17,025

7. Giacomo Caci (Italy) -- EUR11,610
8. Tomaz Kogovsek (Slovenia) -- EUR10,060
