Giovanni Salvatore takes IPT San Remo

The fifth tournament in the PokerStars Italian Poker Tour concluded in San Remo last night with Italian player Giovanni Salvatore beating off Umberto Pavoncello to take down the tournament and win the €150,000 first prize.

The final table, an all-Italian affair featuring just one foreigner (Frenchman Christian Debeil, 5th place), lasted almost a full solid day before the 37-year-old Italian became the last man standing out of the 325 entrants.

Salvatore’s achievement is more impressive still considering that midway through the final table, his stack was reduced to just over one big blind. Eventually he got it back and entered heads-up play with the chip lead, his Ad-3d beating off Pavoncello’s Jc-Tc all-in before the flop.

The next stage of the tournament is also in San Remo, taking place from December 10 – 14.
