Giovanni Safina leads WPT London

Friday, 3 September 2010

Giovanni Safina is the man to be heading into Day 4 of the WPT London Classic at the Palm Beach Casino in Mayfair. The Italian has a massive chip lead, over 500,000 more than closest rival Fabian Quoss.

Erik Seidel, Huck Seed, Phil Ivey and Luke Schwartz may have already hit the rail but there are still some big hitters left in contention for the £273k first prize. Among them is some top UK talent in the form of Jake Cody and Priyan de Mel.

All 18 remaining players are guaranteed at least £8,848 after the bubble burst yesterday evening. And what a bubble it was. The short stacked Viktor Ilyukhin took a stand with Kh-3h and looked in good shape when caller Sandiep Khosa revealed 3-2. Needless to say a deuce appeared on the flop, giving Khosa's stack a timely boost and sending the unfortunate Ilyukhin to the rail.

The chip counts heading into the penultimate day are as follows:

Giovanni Safina 1,271,000
Fabian Quoss 720,000
Fristoffer Thorsson 685,000
Jake Cody 538,000
Gareth Teatum 520,000
John Dwyer 386,000
Baraktul Mohammed 367,000
Sandiep Khosa 363,000
Philip Patrick 356,000
