Taiwan-based online entertainment software provider Gigamedia Ltd announced that ten mainly European Internet poker players gathered for a luxury Mediterranean cruise this week as guests of its Everest Poker website.
It said that the players hailed from six countries and were the survivors of a series of poker tournaments in the Everest Poker Avalanche initiative. While cruising, they were aiming to win the main prize in a live game with a $710,000 prize pool.
'There was some great gameplay on the cruise ship,' said Jonathan May, Property Manager for Everest Poker. 'It's always good to see our players compete live, but this time they really excelled.'
Germany's Frank Stumpf finished in the top spot after a difficult start and took home $233,300. Germany was also represented in second place as Matthias Lotze took home $127,200 followed by France’s Frederic Pasquier who walked away with $95,400.
Stephan Gerin from France took home $74,200 for his fourth place finish followed by Eric Liu of Canada in fifth with $53,000, Hubert Koeman of The Netherlands in sixth with $42,400, Raoul Kristache of Norway in seventh with $31,800, Ann Wijns of Belgium in eighth with $21,200, Didier Fabre of France in ninth with $18,500 and Marc Perucca of France rounding off the top ten with a $13,500 prize.
'With this event wrapped up, it's time to get our players started with our Live The Dream promotion,' said May. 'We're giving ten players the chance to become a poker professional for a year.'
