The partypoker WPT National UK held its snazzy Newcastle main event at Aspers At The Gate, which saw a total of 133 players pay the £200 ($337.47) buy-in in hopes of taking home the £50,000 ($84,360) top prize. An initial trickle of players to the registration desk soon turned into a flood with the field including the likes of Ian Simpson and Jack Ellwood while grinder Solinas Angelo had travelled from Canada in order to take part. The contenders also included some celebrity players in the form of Big Brother 12 runner-up Jay McKray (pictured above), Geordie Shore actor Jay Gardner and North East world boxing champion Stu Hall. The first day of action whittled the initial starting field down to 68 with Paul Castledene finishing with the largest chip stack while two additional sessions planned for later today could see the overall number of participants eventually top 500.
