Gavin O’Rourke on top at UKIPT opener in Galway

Saturday, 12 December 2009

PokerStars qualifier Gavin O’Rourke is in pole position at the end of day one, holding a stack of 104,000 chips, a lead of 22,000 over nearest rival Christopher Brammer. Looming large is the presence of newly minted Team PokerStars Pro Jude Ainsworth who sits in third place with a stack of 81,850.

Irish rugby player Reggie Corrigan had a good day and is handily placed, as are Neil Channing, JP Kelly and John Duthie. Teddy Sheringham will have his work cut out if he wants to emulate former strike partner Tony Cascarino’s recent big win. The former Tottenham man will return for Day 2 with a stack of just over 10,000 chips.

When players return today they will be competing for 37 paid places. The winner will receive €125,000 with those making the final table earning at least €9,000.
