Thursday, 18 September 2014

The 150 starters chasing WPT Borgata glory yesterday were whittled down to just 31, with Jean Gaspard building a huge lead by the close.

The American pro has enjoyed plenty of success in on the World Poker Tour this year, taking down the WPT Championship Event in Tampa for $109,613. Gaspard is set for another deep run after turning the 302,000 he started Wednesday with into a mammoth 5,464,000.

Start of day leader Blake Bohn (2,951,000) is Gaspard's closest challenger followed by Zo Karim (2,280,000), Nicholas Gerrity (1,906,000), Darren Elias (1,770,000) and Kane Kalas (1,679,000).

There are a number of notables scattered amongst the final 31 including Barry Shulman, Erik Cajelias and Matt Glantz. Former champion Bobby Oboodi is also still in contention, as is Londoner Iaron Lightbourne who doubled up to 526,000 shortly before the close.

The bubble burst early on day three with the likes of WPT Player of the Year Mukul Pahuja, Mike Sexton, John Racener and WSOP Main Event winner Ryan Riess all hitting the rail after making the money.

The remaining players guaranteed a payday of at least $17,385. The action resumes at noon local time, (5pm UK), when they will play down to a final table of six.
