John Gardner outlasted a bumper field of 150-runners to win the sixth and final leg of the British Masters Of Poker Tour at Bristol’s Harbourside Casino over the weekend.
Gardner beat a final table that included defending champion Neil Blatchly, Chris Brice, India Storrar and Adrian Brown. As play reached the closing stages a Gardner victory looked extremely unlikely as his stack dipped down to just 6,000 chips after posting his big blind. A quick double up holding A8 gave him a bit of breathing space and an hour later he was celebrating a famous win.Gardner wasn’t the tournament’s biggest cash winner though as a deal was struck when play went three-handed. Richard Lewis took £20,000, Chris Brice £16,500 and Gardner £13,500. As well as winning the trophy and title, Gardner also claimed a seat in the eight-man end of season play off where the victor will earn a Coral sponsorship package worth £10,000.
