GUKSPC Gets Underway

GUKSPC Gets Underway

Wednesday, 9 April 2014

The annual Grosvenor UK Student Poker Championship (GUKSPC) is taking place inside Coventry’s Ricoh Arena from now until Sunday with more than 20 universities represented.

The tournament series from the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) has become increasingly popular with students over the last few years and the action got underway last night with a £110 buy-in high-roller event.

However, despite having an advertised start time of 5pm the first game had to be stalled for an hour due to traffic problems around the West Midlands. When the event eventually got underway, more than 100 competitors were at the felt with Andrew Holroyd leading 64 other runners at the close of Day One. Play is scheduled to begin again from the same time later today, after which the registration desks will finally close.

Away from the high-rollers, this year's GUKSPC £35 buy-in main event is expected to attract more than 400 runners. Some 200 have already registered online while some are hoping to book their seats for less via a range of last-minute satellites.

Alongside a host of cash games, a pot-limit Omaha event and a deepstack tournament are also on the GUKSPC 2014 schedule as are some extracurricular activities including quizzes, beer pong tournaments, comedy guests and a bad beat competition.
