GUKPT Walsall Main Event Day 1B update

GUKPT Walsall Main Event Day 1B update

Saturday, 27 February 2010

A field of over 120 runners took to the felt for Day 1B of the GUKPT Main Event in Walsall yesterday and by the close of what proved to be a highly competitive day, just 36 remained.

Top of the tree when it came to bagging up time was Alli Mallu on 133,800 followed by Mike Hill on 127,400 and James Sykes on 127,200. There are plenty of big names still in the hunt though with WSOP Main Event finalist Jon Kalmar and the Hit Squad's Praz Bansi both nursing stacks of over 100,000 chips.

An unprecedented hat-trick of back-to-back GUKPT Main Event victories is still a possibility too. Priyan de Mel, who won the £1,000 tournaments in both Blackpool and Bolton, finished the day with the eighth largest stack of 71,600 chips.

Yesterday's 39 qualifiers will resume battle with the 25 survivors from Day 1A at 2pm today. Black Belt Poker pro James Mitchell is the man to catch, holding an impressive chip count of just over 166,000.
