GUKPT London Main Event Starts Today

Thursday, 6 February 2014

Today marks the kick-off of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour’s London Main Event, held in Edgware Road’s iconic Victoria Casino.

The £1,080 buy-in event promises to attract massive numbers, drawing in 397 runners last year, and if we were betting men then we’d wager that the £200,000 guarantee is about to get smashed. Spectators will have to wait until tomorrow to see if last year’s number can be topped – traditionally Day 1B tends to be much more in demand – but we certainly have high hopes.

Scores of players entering today will be hoping to follow in the success of last year’s winner Martin Bader, who took home a tidy £56,000 payday after a final table deal. Previous winners also include well known poker greats such as Praz Bansi and Robin Keston, proving that for GUKPT champions the sky really is the limit.

Once again, the tournament relies on a deep-stacked format that has proved a favourite with players – everyone starts with a 20,000 stack, and the 60-minute blind levels allow plenty of room for manoeuvring. It’s also re-entry, so busted players can either buy in again, or try their hand at one of a variety of side events also running.

We’ll be following the action closely, so keep your eyes peeled for updates as they unfold.
