The end of this season's Great British Poker Tour is upon us and with it the start of their finale, the Grand Final. Rounding off an inaugural season which has hosted tournaments in Edinburgh, Teesside, Nottingham, Bournemouth and Leeds, the tour now visits the Gala Casino Harbourside in Bristol where two preliminary events will lead into a four-day main event to crown a 2007 Great British Poker Champion.
The Grand Final event begins tomorrow and is scheduled for four days of play, with Day One being split into two. The officials are expecting the £2,500 buy in to generate a prize pool of £500,000. As well as earning a chunk of the prize pool, the top five finishers will also get bonus prizes.
Pros from both home and abroad have confirmed their entries to the Grand Final, with contenders for the crown including Roland de Wolfe, Ram Vaswani, Barney Boatman and Joe Beevers from the UK, with foreign marauders to include the likes of Phil Laak, Antonio Esfandiari, Jennifer Tilly, Robert Williamson III and Jamie Gold.
'So far in the GBPT we've seen some really high standard of poker from local amateurs holding their own against the U.K. and European pro players, so it'll be a fascinating contest to see what drama will unfold with these star names of world poker in the frame,' said Thomas Kremser, GBPT tournament director.
'For any aspiring poker players, it simply doesn't get any better than this.'
