Christmas came early this year for Full Tilt Poker pro and Hendon Mob member Joe Beevers who earned $1 Million for his first-place finish at the Ladbrokes Poker Millions VI in London on December 21st.
Beevers' victory marks his second appearance at a Poker Millions final table, and is the largest tournament cash of his career. In 2003, he earned $70,000 for his second-place finish in the prestigious tournament.
Coming to the final televised table as one of the shorter stacks, Beevers played a patient game early on letting his opponents, including Team Full Tilt member Howard Lederer and fellow Full Tilt Poker pro Julian Gardner control much of the action. The strategy paid off as the blinds increased and the field thinned, with Lederer departing in fifth position and Gardner finishing third.
Learning from his past experience, Beevers stepped up his heads-up game eventually defeating 2007 Irish Poker Open champion Marty Smyth to claim the victory.
'This win solidifies Joe Beevers as one of the best all around, international players in the game,' said fellow Full Tilt Pro Chris Ferguson.
