Freddie Ellis Wins WSOP Event #6 - $10k Stud Championship.

Thursday, 4 June 2009

Freddie Ellis is a New York veteran of Stud – the kind that Mike McDermott and Worm played against in seedy back rooms. His dedication to the game belied his age and allowed him to get through several long days before a victory.

Heads-up he bested WSOP old-timer Eric Drache, who came runner-up in the $4,000 Stud event in 1973. A flush in hearts secured Ellis the title and the $373,744 top prize.

Stud expert and four-time WSOP bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu couldn’t quite make the final eight-man table, finishing in tenth place. One pro who did make the cut and a run for the title, however, was Max Prescatori, who finished in a respectable fourth place.
