Frankenberger leads WPT Legends of Poker

Wednesday, 25 August 2010

The final table for the WPT Legends of Poker $5k Main Event has been set. Fifteen players started the penultimate day but they were down to six after just five action packed hours of play at the Bicycle Casino in LA.

Leading the way going into the final day is Andy Frankenberger who has a stack of just over 3m chips. Joining him at the final table will be Tom Lee on 2.915m, Kyle Wilson on 2.854m, Jared Jaffee on 1.006m, Tom Braband on 968k and short stack Franco Brunetti on 800k.

Jonathan Little appeared to be in good shape to make it an unprecedented hat-trick of World Poker Tour victories but fell just short. Little, who plays online as “FieryJustice”, had million dollar WPT pay days in 2007 and 2008 and looked on course for another in 2010 but his luck faded after he ran into runner runner flushes not once but twice. Little busted in 12th place, the $24k offering little in the way of consolation.

Little wasn't the only player left to bemoan his ill fortune. Adam Schiffer twice got his chips in as an overwhelming favourite and was sucked out on on both occasions. Even worse, his two conquerors both made it to the final table. First up Schiffer got all the chips in with Jared Jaffee on a Qs-10c-9d board holding pocket Kings. Jaffee revealed AcQc and hit runner clubs for a flush. Just two hands later Schiffer was again all in, this time with pocket Queens. He was again called by AcQd. An ace on the flop seemed inevitable and so it proved. Another ace on the turn confirmed the elminination. Schiffer busted out in 15th for $19,500.

The action at The Bike resumes at midnight UK time. Join us tomorrow to see who will be the latest WPT winner and the proud owner of $750,000 in cash.
