The remaining thirty three players began the day at a leisurely
pace, with chips flitting from stack to stack.
The first elimination of the day came after half a level had
wound down on the clock, but it started a charge by Ted Forrest
which lead him all the way to the final nine. In a mammoth pot, the
one they call ‘Spooky’ must have felt like disappearing when he ran
pocket tens into the kings of Daniel Woolson, but when he spiked a
ten on the flop, it proved the spark which began Forrest’s
ascent.
Paul Darden was one of the remaining big name players left in
the field, but with his elimination in 24th, it wasn’t long before
the remaining players drew for the final two seats. Erik Seidel,
along with Forrest, was the other major live pro left in the field,
and he soon got a firm grip on his table. Seidel doubled up through
Joe Simmons with pocket jacks before eliminating two others to
propel his stack over the 1.5 million mark.
The players then redrew for the final two tables allowing Erik
Seidel to take over. Seidel steadily dominated his table, first
doubling up through Simmons with pocket jacks and then busted Matt
Brady and John Spadevecchia to take his stack over 1.5 million.
Forrest maintained his million-plus stack by taking out Ben Zamani
and he and Seidel took turns raising at their table to increase
their leads over the rest of the field.
With Seidel and Forrest both taking it in turns to pound their
opponents, the final nine are now set, and will play down to the
televised table of six. While play should be short and brief, the
money increments as well as the chance to appear on a TV table
might lead to some cagey play – something which the more
experienced duo may seek to capitalise on.
