A new law went into effect in the southern American state of Florida yesterday that raises the maximum allowed bet from $2 to $5 on poker tables and allows for no limit Texas Hold’em games with a maximum required buy-in of $100 at State-licensed gaming rooms.
The Senate's Finance and Taxation Committee said that the changes under House Bill 1377 are expected to net the State an additional two million dollars but critics have stated that the Bill should have included money for the treatment of compulsive gambling disorders.
The Bill was signed despite a large amount of controversy surrounding online poker in the US with Senators and Congressmen attempting to stop its playing online.
The new law allows games of No Limit cash tables where players can buy in for no more than $100 and blinds are to be set at $1/2 and $2/5. A $5/5 Limit table will also be implemented among card rooms in the state compared to the previous $2/2 maximum.
These card rooms could become very active if the US Treasury ceases regulations to stop online poker deposits in the nation. Banks have another month to act on regulations set by the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act (UIGEA) passed in October and these regulations should decide how much the US wants to crack down on Internet gambling.
