The cream of the world’s German-speaking poker talent is gathering in London this week for the first ever PartyPoker.com sponsored German Open, with heats kicking off tomorrow, October 17.
36 top German-speaking poker players and celebrities are competing for a total prize pool of €117,000, with first place receiving €50,000. The buy-in to the tournament is €2,500 euros and PartyPoker.com is adding the rest of the prize money.
“It gives us great pleasure to create the first ever event for German-speaking players. We’re sure it is going to be a great success and hope it becomes an annual event,” a PartyPoker.com spokesman said. “Germany hasn’t previously had an event like this though their players are amongst the most skilled and enthusiastic in the world.”
One celebrity player to look out for is veteran German international goalkeeper Uli Stein. “He almost single-handedly took Germany to the final of the Football and Poker Legends Cup in the summer and will be particularly well remembered for the way he destroyed an England team,” said the PartyPoker.com spokesman. “Uli has shown himself to be an opponent no poker player wants to go all-in against. He’s a big guy who holds big cards!”
