Final table set at UKIPT opener

Monday, 14 December 2009

Paul Marrow is in the driving seat heading into the final table of the maiden PokerStars UKIPT event in Galway today. The Englishman holds a stack of 1,000,500 chips, a lead of 172,000 over nearest rival, American Ben Lefew.

Padraig Parkinson heads a strong home contingent in third place with 693,500. Joining the former Late Night Poker winner at the final table are fellow Irish players Michael Graydon, Cat O’Neill, Paul Dooley and Michael Cosgrove. Canadian Michael McFadgen and Briton Trevor Bulless complete the line up.

Hopes were high yesterday for a celebrity winner in the form of Irish rugby international Reggie Corrigan. The former loose-head prop held the chip lead at one stage but eventually bowed out in 14th place after his four bet bluff with Jc6c ran into Ben Lefew’s AsQs. A 6 on the flop gave the burly forward hope but spades on the turn and river gave Lefew the nuts, leaving Corrigan to settle for €5,000.

The action comes to a conclusion today with the winner taking home €125,000 and a seat in EPT London worth a further £5,000.
