Final Table of APPT Melbourne Main Event is Set

Monday, 3 September 2012

Day 3 of APPT Melbourne began with 44 players, but that was quickly thinned down to 34 in the first hour. Last year's winner Leo Boxell was denied his back-to-back victory, exiting soon after in 19th place for $12,080.

Going into the Final Table Tom Grigg has a substantial chip lead over the other eight, with 2.27m in chips. Sam Razavi is currently in second place with 1.32m. However, Grigg is sure to see face some tough competition - Sam already has a UKIPT win under his belt and will be looking to add to it, as well as from Brendon Rubie (currently with 1m chips) who took down an Aussie Millions side event earlier this year for $206k.

Ismail Ismail was the Final Table bubble boy. His 3bet all-in from the big blind over Grigg's button open was quickly called, and he was needing to get lucky - his Q8s trailing Grigg's AJ. The flop came a dry 4,3,2, but Ismail got some hope on the turn as he paired his 8, but it was not to be as a Jack fell on the river to seal his fate.
