Final Few Remain in WPT’s Cypriot Adventure

A weekend of action saw the opening WPT event of Season 10 get under way in Cyprus and when the registration desk had closed inside the Merit Crystal Cove Hotel & Casino a total of 262 players had sat down.

Each anteing-up $4,400 to play the $1,000,000 guaranteed event, the star-studded field saw the likes of Sam Trickett, Kara Scott and defending champion Marvin Rettenmaier all hit the rail.

Indeed, as Day 2 dawned just 103 players remained but as the day progressed that figure would be cut even further as players began to catch site of the winner’s trophy and accompanying $250,000.

By the close of the session it was Alexey Rybin who led the 31 survivors by a huge margin. Thanks a strong surge towards the end of the day the Russian grinder was able to bag 858,000 chips to finish ahead of Asaf Avci (519,500) andNatalya Nikitina (468,000).

Also still in contention at the close of play was notable German pro, Manig Loeser. Thanks to an 185,500 chip haul on Day 2 Loeser will now start today’s official third session as a likely candidate to surpass the 27th place bubble.
