Tuesday, 7 February 2012

As the EPT wraps up in Deauville, the World Poker Tour took to Venice where a field of 155 created a €690,525 prize pool. Leading the 89 survivors into Day 2 is WSOP 2010 November Niner Filippo Candio.

Candio, the fourth-place finisher at the 2010 WSOP, is remembered for his aggressive play which he put to good use in Venice yesterday. He built his 30,000 starting stack into 227,900 and is more than 50,000 chips ahead of his nearest competitor.

Other well-known names to compete included Arnaud Mattern, James Dempsey and Rupert Elder, though none survived the day. Making Day 2 a little more star-studded are Kara Scott, Tony G, Mike Sexton and James Akenhead.

The payout structure will be announced today. The top five chip counts are as follows:

1. Filippo Candio – 227,900
2. Gabriele Lepore – 172,000
3. Andrea Dato – 121,700
4. Andrey Gulyy – 107,600
