Fightback Commences Against Minnesota Block

Tuesday, 12 May 2009

The iMEGA (Interactive Media, Entertainment and Gaming Association) is fighting back against Minnesota’s attempt to block online gambling sites from its residents. It has been publicised as a two-pronged attack.

The first part of the attack is informing ISPs that they do not have to comply with Minnesota’s orders to block sites. On Tuesday, they sent a letter to 11 different ISPs telling them that they had no legal obligation to block over 200 online gaming websites.

They followed this up by filing a lawsuit in the US District Court to prevent the DPS enforcing the order to block sites.

"It's our hope that Minnesota will recognize their error and drop their blocking order," said Joe Brennan Jr., iMEGA chairman. "Censoring Internet access for Minnesota residents would establish a troubling precedent of government intrusion into the online world, and we just can't allow that to happen."
