Female Social Casino Poker Player Numbers on the Up - Survey

A look around any poker tournament or casino will show that poker is largely a male dominated pursuit.

The winds of change could be slowly working their way through the online space though according to a new survey from International Game Technology and Double Down Casino.

IGT's U.S. Social Casino Index project assessed the preferences of the six million social casino players who play DoubleDown Casino games on Facebook or via mobile each month.

According to the report, “there was a 22 percent increase in female players in 2013” compared to the previous 12 months. The survey also found that women make up one third of the social casino poker playing market and spend approximately the same amount of time playing free-to-play online poker each week as men.

“As the world’s largest virtual casino, we pay attention to trends and make note of the fact that poker is appealing to broader audiences both online and on the casino floor,” said John Clelland, Vice President of Global Marketing at IGT Interactive Group. “Poker is traditionally thought of as a male-dominated game but our data proves that female poker players are on the rise in social casinos.”
