Fairways and felts promotion from PokerStars at EPT

Poker and golf seem to go together nicely – Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey and Dusty Schmidt are some of the names who hit the courses after a long day at the tables. Often spiced up with juicy six-figure bets for the former two; the latter was a PGA pro before turning to poker.

The last two days of the EPT Vilamoura Main Event on September 1-2 will play host to the €1,100 challenge that sees players pit themselves against each other on the – you guessed it – fairways and felt.

Pinhal Course will play host to the first leg of the challenge with players randomly allocated to teams. Their performance on the course determines their starting stack in leg two – a No-Limit Hold ‘em tournament.

PokerStars pro, UK legend and two-time WSOP bracelet-winner JP Kelly said: “I haven’t been playing golf that long but I’m already well and truly hooked. Golf is a perfect antidote to the stresses of the poker table – it’s physical but also includes the kind of mental challenges that poker players relish. Vilamoura is home to some of the best golf courses in the world – in fact, the entire resort was built around courses – so I am very excited at the prospect of playing there. I’m even hoping to go out early with friends to get some practice in beforehand.”

The EPT Vilamoura will run its €5,500 Main Event from August 26 to September 2. Last year 332 players created a prize pool of over €1,500,000 to make it the richest ever Portuguese poker tournament.
