It has been a landmark year for poker, and as the tournament poker season comes to an end for the calendar year, Prague will be playing host to the latest leg of the European Poker Tour. The event kicks off today, and another tough field packed with the pros is expected.
A quick glance over the list of qualifiers for the €5,000 event gives some indication of what to expect. 2007 World Series of Poker bracelet winner Katja Thater leads a host of live and online players who are eligible to participate.
Other players who will be joining her include Dario Mineri, Shaun Deeb, Betrand Grospellier, Luca Pagano and Danny Ryan. Alongside the main event itself, there is also a €500 (with one rebuy) two day tournament as well as a €2,000 event on December 13th and a €1,000 freezeout on the 14th.
Entries for the €5,000 event have been capped at 500, which may not be reached due to the WPT Five Diamond Classic which is currently underway at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
By Friday the EPT will have crowned another champion and to do so they would have outlasted some of the best in Europe. The EPT is proving to be a tough nut to crack for many, with the likes of Annette Obrestad and Phil Ivey having been ‘EPT Bridesmaids’ and finishing runner-up.
