Eugene Katchalov leads Epic Poker League 6-max Day 1

Wednesday, 10 August 2011

The inaugural event of the Epic Poker League began yesterday with the first day of the $20,000, rake-free, $400,000-added, 6-max NL event that saw a huge turnout of 137 card-carrying Epic poker players to give us a prize pool of more than three million dollars and a first prize of nearly seven figures.

Any table in the room could have been one of the best final tables ever seen with the world’s best tournament and cash game poker players competing in short-handed NL in a fast and furious tournament that saw just 63 survive to Day 2.

On top of the leaderboard is Eugene Katchalov, currently ranked third in the Epic Poker League’s Global Poker Index rankings.

He is followed by Ben Lamb, naturally, who is incapable of non-deep runs in tournaments, as well as $50,000 Players’ Championship bracelet-winner Brian Rast and Antonio Esfandiari. Also in the top ten in chips are McLean Karr, Sorel Mizzi, Erik Seidel and Vanessa Selbst.

Day 2 begins today with 63 players returning and 18 earning at least $43,000. The final table payouts start at $107,000 with the winner set to take home just shy of a million dollars.
