Erik Seidel heads Epic Poker Mix Max

Thursday, 15 December 2011

Erik Seidel's 2011 has been an annus mirabilis and the Seiborg is on course to end the year just as he started it – at the top of the chip counts in a big tournament, this time in the $20,000 Epic Poker League Mix Max event.

Seidel, who has reached the final table at two previous Epic Poker League events, closed the opening day at the head of the leader board with a stack of 223,100 followed by Scott Clements on 203,400 and Vanessa Selbst on 159,000. A total of 61 of the 100 starters will be back for day 2 including David Williams, Matt Glantz, Tom Marchese and McLean Karr.

The big story of the opening day was Doyle Brunson, who was this week given the Epic Poker League's first ever lifetime card. Unfortunately for the ten-time WSOP bracelet winner, his appearance was a brief one. Joining Dolly on the rail were the likes of Sam Trickett, ElkY, Andy Bloch and Chris Moorman.

The format for the third Epic Poker League Main Event is an interesting one, starting eight handed before going down to seven handed on day two. When the field drops to 36 play will resume six-handed before going to four-handed. The title will be won by the victor in a best of three heads up match. Given the way Seidel has performed this year, we wouldn't bet against him adding yet another trophy to his bulging mantelpiece.
